Just in from David Elkowitz at Big Bend National Park:
The park is sponsoring a Good Neighbor Day on October 18th from about 10-2 at RGV group campsites.
This is NOT the old International Good Neighbor Fiesta, but is instead local community/regional school children being invited into the park as part of a grant. All are welcome to this event.

Big Bend Reunion Update 2

I am making this blogspot so that all of us old timers can have a place on the web were we can touch bases and make announcements. I hope that this idea works for most of you who have expressed an interest in getting together on October 18-20, 2014 in the park and surrounding area.
First off we need to be clear about one thing - there is no group organizing or sponsoring our get together and no reservations are being made for a group at campgrounds or motels. Everyone coming that weekend is on their own. If anyone wants to organize something formal you will need to get a Special Use Permit from the park. I just don't have the time or resources to do more than what I have done up to this point and with this blog. Several people currently working in the park are interested in getting together, perhaps someone at Panther Junction would like to host a picnic or potluck. That is what we did when I organized a reunion back in the spring of 1988 when I was still working there. You can see a two part video of that event on my YouTube channel. What I am doing with this blogspot is simple - starting a conversation on how we can meet and where the weekend of October 18-20. Everyone who wants to add to this information can do so by commenting on this blog entry or sending me an email with what you want to add at ricklobello@gmail.com. I will then add anything in the area that you want to organize to the informal reunion schedule.
Perhaps you want to meet folks for breakfast at the lodge on a certain date or time and then go for a drive or a hike.
For now here is a plan I am working on:
I plan to arrive in the park on Friday afternoon October 17 and will camp where I can. I will be at the Chisos Mountains Lodge for dinner at 6pm.
On Saturday, October 18 I plan to go hiking around the park and have dinner at the Starlight in Terlingua at 7pm.
I hope to see many of you that weekend. Send me what you want to add to this schedule and I will post it here.
